The magic of the cup, a sunny day, and Linfield are playing Glentoran for a place in the final.
The mood for the rest of the day will be dictated by the result.
Vital goals at vital times is how this could be summed up. The first goal was always going to be vital.
If Glentoran got it, it was going to be a long afternoon, if Linfield got it, there was only going to be one winner.
Every time Linfield attacked, when they got in their groove and played passing football, they looked as though they could just score at will.
Unfortunately, that was countered by the suspect nature of Linfield’s central defence, who amazingly have kept 5 clean sheets in the last 6 games, as Douglas and Murphy once again struggled with long balls forward and basic decision making.
Thankfully, despite that, Glentoran had the look of a team who could play all week and not score.
The goals coming when they did knocked all spirit out of them.
Was in the front row of the Upper Deck of The Kop (the Lower Deck wasn’t open) and managed to get some OK photos. Love the one I get of the celebrations after Thompson’s goal.
Hopefully, next Saturday will have more photos of a Linfield win over Glentoran as well.
