Was at Shamrock Park today for the match between Portadown and Linfield, my first Linfield match in four weeks, and my word, it’s great to be back.
Linfield went in at half-time 1-0 down. Probably deserved it as it wasn’t a great performance, but the manner of the goal …….. well.
Sean Mackle scored after fouling Jim Ervin, but referee Mark Courtney waved play on for him to score. Welcome to the wonderful world of Irish League refereeing.
If anything, it kickstarted Linfield’s performance, and they came out for the second-half a changed team, and equalised through Peter Thompson.
It was all Linfield pressure from there, but it was one of those days where, as the pundits say, “The ball just wouldn’t bounce”
As disappointing it was not to get the win, this result and Cliftonville’s defeat at The Oval means Linfield still have a four point gap from Portadown and now a seven point lead over Cliftonville.
As per usual with Shamrock Park, if you think fast, you can get some not bad photos. Enjoy.
