THE FRIDAY FIVE – 31.8.2012

1. Ellie Goulding – Anything Could Happen
2. Two Door Cinema Club – Sleep Alone
3. Underworld – Caliban’s Dream
4. Justice – New Lands
5. Amy MacDonald – Pride

This week, saw the 18th (Bloody hell!) anniversary of the release of Definitely Maybe. Having honoured ‘Be Here Now’ last week, it’s only fair to do the same to Definitely Maybe with a Top Five.

Bet you all can’t wait until the start of October for me to do a (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? Top Five (And yes, I will)

(I wish ‘Whatever’ was on this album so I could include it on my chart as it’s one of my favourite Oasis songs ever. *sigh*)

FIVE SONGS FROM DEFINITELY MAYBE

1. Slide Away
2. Columbia
3. Supersonic
4. Live Forever
5. Cigarettes & Alcohol

LINFIELD 4-0 DONEGAL CELTIC 24.8.2012

With no goals and only one point from the first two games of the season, if you had to choose opponents for game three, it would probably be Distillery. The second choice, would be a team who have conceded six, five and four on their last three visits to Windsor Park.

The 4-0 scoreline might sound like a routine win, but it wasn’t so for long periods, with Linfield replicating defending from 2008-2009, giving Donegal Celtic regular sights on goal which they thankfully didn’t take.

Once Linfield went into a 2-0 lead, they stepped up a gear and got a resounding win.

Much improvement needed for a tricky run of September fixtures though. And the less said of Gary Browne’s yellow boots, the better.

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB – LIVE AT CUSTOM HOUSE SQUARE (BELSONIC) 23.8.2012

From The Olympics to Belsonic, it’s been quite an upward trajectory this year for Two Door Cinema Club, something they reference during the concert, remarking that this was their third Belsonic, starting off at the bottom of the bill, then being in the middle, before headlining last Thursday night.

Quite where they will be on the bill for their next Belsonic appearance is anyone’s guess.

I’d heard about them but not actually heard them when I bought their debut album. I’d got a HMV voucher for my birthday last year, so I thought i’d take a chance. Brilliant decision, absolutely love it.

Looking forward to their new album coming out in the next few weeks.

The band were brilliant throughout.

Managed to get an OK shooting position. Enjoy

A (mostly, if you ignore the Concert Cunt Cliches that big Belfast concerts attract) enjoyable trilogy of Belsonic concerts for me.

I’d previously blogged in 2010 that I was worried that Belsonic were stretching themselves too far by having week-long line-ups (The event started in 2008 with just three nights)

Thankfully, my concerns have been proved wrong. Looking forward to see who is booked for 2013

NOAH AND THE WHALE – LIVE AT CUSTOM HOUSE SQUARE (BELSONIC) 23.8.2012

My final Belsonic gig of 2012 came last Thursday for the double bill of Noah and the Whale and Two Door Cinema Club.

Was a bit surprised that Two Door Cinema Club were headlining ahead of Noah and the Whale, but it was a home gig I guess.

I’d seen Noah and the Whale in October at Ulster Hall and they were fantastic.

The concert didn’t get off to the best start, as Noah and the Whale had sound problems at the start, and the crowd didn’t seem that interested in them.

However, they ploughed on and won them over. Didn’t get a great shooting position for photos, but managed to get some shots.

Enjoy

4. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – AKA ……. What A Life
5. Noah and the Whale – 5 Years Time

This week marked the 15th anniversary of Be Here Now, the criminally under-rated 3rd Oasis album. In tribute to it’s brilliance, here’s a Top Five from that album

FIVE SONGS FROM BE HERE NOW

1. Don’t Go Away
2. D’ya Know What I Mean?
3. All Around The World
4. The Girl In The Dirty Shirt
5. Fade-In Out

NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS – LIVE AT CUSTOM HOUSE SQUARE (BELSONIC) 20.8.2012

Even though I saw him at The Odyssey, as soon as it was announced that Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds were playing Belsonic, I made sure I was at the front of the queue for a ticket.

Musically brilliant, mixing solo songs and Oasis classics on a rotating basis, like his performance at The Odyssey. The thing is though, his solo album is so brilliant, he shouldn’t really need to rely on old songs to fill up a setlist.

Disappointingly, there was no encore, much to the anger of the crowd, a simple, rather swift just walking of the stage.

Managed to get an OK position for photos.

Enjoy

THE ENEMY – LIVE AT CUSTOM HOUSE SQUARE (BELSONIC) 20.8.2012

Was at Custom House Square on Monday night for Belsonic, Noel Gallagher headlining and The Enemy Supporting.

Third time seeing The Enemy. Not a bad support band, can’t say i’d go and see them headline.

Got some not bad photos.

Enjoy.

MADNESS – LIVE AT CUSTOM HOUSE SQUARE (BELSONIC) – 17.8.2012

I love Madness, and i’ve always wanted to see them live. I bought ‘Heavy Heavy Hits’ with my first pay packet and sat in front of the TV awaiting their comeback single ‘Lovestruck’ on Top Of The Pops in 1999.

On Friday night, I realised the ambition of seeing them play live.

They were fantastic from start to finish, and the crowd, 90% in Fez were loving it. The only disappointment was that neither ‘Lovestruck’ and ‘Driving In My Car’ were played.

Got a fantastic position and some good shots. Enjoy.
