Was at The Oval today for the first Big Two game of the season, hoping Linfield would do better than the 0 points and 0 goals from the 4 meetings with Glentoran last season.

With so much “Traffic” congestion (Top eight teams separated by three points) after three games, it was important to start winning in order to keep in touch with the teams at the top (Especially after Linfield’s poor start)

However, I was left scratching my head as Linfield went into the game with a 4-5-1 formation, only weeks after complaining about Coleraine playing a similar formation at Windsor Park.

Linfield actually started the game off better, getting into good attacking positions and getting attempts on the Glentoran goal. If we could just get an early goal. Soon after, the early goal came ……… for Glentoran.

From there on, Linfield just went to pieces. Murphy and Watson seemed to be messing up their clearances, any pass over ten yards immediately resulted in a Glentoran throw, corners couldn’t beat the first man.

The second-half continued in the same fashion, before Billy Joe Burns scored an equalising goal. The downside for him is that he’ll play in right midfield for the near future.

Linfield had chances to win the game, which frustratingly weren’t taken. Game was there for the taking, it wasn’t taken.

Oh well, time to start thinking about Crusaders on Tuesday night.

Usual standard Oval phototaking, no great positions, so reduced to arty crowd shots.
