2014 IN PICTURES – DECEMBER (SO FAR)

December 2014 was mostly about concerts and football matches.

The first of which, was Foxes at The Limelight. Then the next day, I was off to Ballymena to see Ballymena v Linfield, then straight to Ravenhill for Ulster v Scarlets.

Next up, was Kasabian at The Odyssey, supported by The Maccabees.

Back to football, then it was Windsor Park for me for Linfield v Ballinamallard United, before later that night, heading to The Limelight to see Embrace in concert.

Two days later, my last concert of the year, Madness at The Odyssey, before last weekend, seeing Linfield win a thrilling match against Portadown.

There’s still a week left of the year, so still time for more photos.

Here’s to more photos in 2015.

2014 IN PICTURES – NOVEMBER

November began for me with a road trip to Lurgan, to Mourneview Park, to see Linfield take on Glenavon in what could be described as an eventful game.

The following week, it was back to Windsor Park, for the home game against Dungannon Swifts.

The week after that, it was Windsor Park again, for the visit or Glentoran.

Back on the road the week after, to Warrenpoint, to see Linfield do their standard go behind but win it late thing they do up there.

It wasn’t all Linfield though, on the final weekend of the month, I headed to Manchester for a short break, where I got loads of Street Art photos, went to two football matches and two concerts.

That, was my November.

2014 IN PICTURES – OCTOBER

October was mostly spent at Windsor Park, with four Linfield matches and a Northern Ireland match. There was other stuff too.

The first Saturday of the month saw me see Linfield take on Ballymena United at Windsor Park. As the month wore on, the frequent visits to Windsor Park allowed me the chance to document the ongoing redevelopment, from the still unfamiliar surroundings of the North Stand.

The following Saturday, it was Windsor Park again, but for an international between Northern Ireland and Faroe Islands. Unlike club games, I was in The Kop. This view allowed me to get some final photos of the South Stand at Windsor Park, as it entered it’s final days before complete demolition.

Two days after Northern Ireland’s win, I was back at Windsor Park to see Linfield take on Institute, which kicked-off late due to a power failure at the ground.

The next day, I went to see George Ezra in concert, at Winds ….. I jest, The Limelight.

Back to Windsor Park on the final two Saurdays of the month, to see Linfield take on Crusaders and Cliftonville, with some Street Art on North Street (missed out from Culture Night, the previous month) and Duke Of York

2014 IN PICTURES – SEPTEMBER

It took a while for anything to happen in September, almost two weeks in fact.

In the middle of the month, Linfield faced Warrenpoint Town. Such a match was not usually exciting, but it was Linfield’s first home match of the season, and a chance to see in person, the ongoing redevelopment at Windsor Park.

The following Friday, was Culture Night, some great photo opportunities and an excellent evening’s entertainment.

The next day, I was Windsor Park to see Linfield take on Glenavon.

On the Sunday, I headed down to North Street to survey the aftermath of Culture Night, and the new Street Art that had appeared.

From North, I headed West the following Saturday, to Fermanagh, to see Linfield take on Ballinamallard United.

Two days later, I was Seaview bound to see Linfield take on Crusaders in a rearranged game to end the month.

2014 IN PICTURES – AUGUST

It took a while for August to get going, but when it did, it was rather good.

My first photo adventure came on the second weekend, when I headed to Portadown to see a new era begin, Linfield’s first domestic game with Warren Feeney as manager. The less said of the result, the better.

Late that night, I headed to Falls Park to see Kaiser Chiefs in concert.

The following day, I was off to Wales for a few days, specifically to see the European Super Cup Final between Real Madrid and Sevilla.

I took the opportunity to explore Cardiff, go to Bristol for a day, and spend some time in Bath. Loved the Street Art in Bristol. Would have loved to have gone on the official tour, but it wasn’t on the day I was there.

Back in Belfast, it was off to The Oval to see Linfield come from 2-0 down to beat Glentoran.

I wasn’t back in Belfast long, as it was time to head to Edinburgh, mostly for the Festival, but I did take in some football, Hearts v Hibs. I also managed to get some Street Art photos when in Edinbugh.

Not long back in Belfast, it was time for Tennent’s Vital to see Bastille and The Killers on the same bill.

Two days later, it was on the road to see Linfield, a theme through the opening weeks of the season. This time, it was to Institute, my first time there.

Two days after that, was a trip to see Linfield go out of the League Cup to Ballyclare. The less said of that, the better.

One more road trip, to Dungannon, to see Linfield get a 1-0 win. At least the month ended on a winning note.

2014 IN PICTURES – JULY

July began for me with a trip to Dublin, then Bray, primarily for a concert headlined by James and Paloma Faith, a bit of football to see Bray Wanderers, and some Dublin Street Art.

The following week, Linfield’s season was back up and running with the second leg of the UEFA Cup tie against B36 Torshavn at Mourneview Park, my first time seeing Warren Feeney’s Linfield in the flesh.

A 1-1 draw was enough to giver Linfield a tie in the next round against AIK, again at Mourneview Park, where and Andrew Waterworth goal secured a 1-0 win. Unfortunately, a 2-0 defeat in the away leg eliminated Linfield.

Two days later, it was back on the football wagon for Linfield’s friendly against Cowdenbeath. The only reason I went was to see Clandeboye Park, after having had some work done.

The month ended with another Wonder Villains gig, an instore at HMV.

2014 IN PICTURES – JUNE

No football, but there was still plenty of stuff to do in June.

The first weekend saw me head to The Limelight for Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott. If the names sound familiar, that’s because they were the vocal duo in The Beautiful South from 1994 onwards.

I never saw The Beautiful South during their lifespan, so it was good to see this gig.

Two weeks later, was a gig with a difference – it was on a roof. I went to see Wonder Villains launch their album on the roof of the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast.

The following Saturday, I was out in Belfast City Centre, getting some Street Art shots, the highlight of which was some Sunflowers opposite The Sunflower Bar.

Later that day, was a HMV instore gig by Runaway Go, at a new dedicated performance area.

2014 IN PICTURES – MAY

May began for me with the Irish Cup Final. Unfortunately, Linfield weren’t involved, going as a neutral, in the Glenavon end, having picked up a ticket at Mourneview Park the week before.

That weekend, I was out getting some Street Art pictures, most notably, of Felix The Cat and a Phoenix.

With the football season over, it was cycling that filled the following weekend, as the Giro D’Italia rolled in to Belfast. I was there on Thursday (Team presentations), Friday (Time Trials) and Saturday (First Stage), getting a not bad position at the finish line.

I spent most of the Friday at Titanic Slipways to see the teams off. In retrospect, I probably would have been better out on the streets seeing the teams in motion. Win some, lose some. I guess.

That was it for May. I didn’t really do much else.

2014 IN PICTURES – APRIL

April began for me at The Limelight, seeing Miles Kane in concert. Fantastic concert and a fantastic performer. Was up at the front, so managed to get some good photos.

It wasn’t until the second Saturday of the month that I went to my first football match (there was no football for me on the first Saturday due to Irish Cup Semi-Finals) at Seaview, seeing Linfield win a thrilling game 3-2.

Within ten days, Linfield’s title hopes had ended with a draw (v Portadown) and a defeat (v Glentoran) over Easter.

The game against Glentoran was Linfield’s last at Windsor Park before refurbishment, so I took the opportunity to get some final shots of the South Stand.

Linfield’s season ended with a trip to Mourneview Park, David Jeffrey’s last game in charge. End of season stuff and an easy win for Linfield, and some nice photos.

The next day, I headed to North Street to get some photos of Street Art which had just appeared in the area.

2014 IN PICTURES – MARCH

March began for me in Ballymena, seeing Linfield take on Crusaders in the delayed (from December 2013) County Antrim Shield Final.

Didn’t get many good shots, and the trophy presentation was ruined by the part-time idiots invading the pitch. Standard.

The following Saturday, it was Shamrock Park bound to see Linfield take on Portadown.

Seven days later, it was football again, to see Linfield take on Dungannon Swifts.

The next day, I was out on my bike, for a long overdue Street Art round-up, mainly consisting of murals of dogs.

That midweek, I was Old Trafford bound to see Manchester United beat Olympiacos 3-0 to reach the Quarter-Finals of the European Cup. It was my second, and as turned out, last, time seeing a David Moyes United team. To be honest, at the time, I had a suspicion that would be the case.

After a long bus trip to Old Trafford, it was back on the buses that weekend, heading to Coleraine to see Linfield draw 0-0 with the home team.

The final football match of the month was not a good one, watching Linfield lose 3-1 to Cliftonville, a result which would ultimately go on to cost them the title.
