50 YEARS OF TOP OF THE POPS : FEB 7 – FEB 13

Hello and welcome to this week’s TOTP round-up, which celebrates the 60th birthday of a German pop legend, Dieter Bohlen of Modern Talking. Epic song, Epic fake tan.

Born exactly 20 years later was Danny Goffey of Supergrass. Here he is, when he was young, when he was free …….

Another birthday this week is Holly Johnson, 54 this week. Here he is performing Love Train in 1989. A forgotten classic.

No doubt you were expecting me to post a Frankie video, well relax! here’s one. It’s not relax though. Mike Read banned me from posting it.

A sad anniversary now, as it’s two years this week since the death of Whitney Houston.

Peter Gabriel is 64 today. Unfortunately, there’s no TOTP performances of him on Youtube. But, as a special treat, would you like to see Erasure do a cover of Solsbury Hill?

It doesn’t matter if you don’t, that’s what you’re getting.

Another Peter celebrating today is Peter Hook. 58, since you ask. And like his former New Order bandmate Bernard Sumner, it will be celebrated by a side project, in his case, Monaco.

Sharing a birthday with the two Peters is the fat dancer from Take That, or, Robbie “The Robster” Williams as he’s known.

I’ve searched, and found some songs that aren’t bloody awful, in fact, I would go as far to say, tolerable.

And finally, another Boybander celebrating today is Aston Merrygold, formerly of JLS.
