At this time of year, there is one question we all ask, and this year, the answer is once again yes. If you haven’t worked it out yet, BBC Four’s Top Of The Pops repeats will continue into 1985.

If you don’t know when International Men’s Day is, just go on Twitter on Tuesday and you’ll have smug and self righteous comedians (looking at you Richard Herring) and journalists pointing it out to you in a patronising manner.
It’s on November 19th, if you want to save yourself the effort of being spoken down to by patronising wankers (looking at you Richard Herring) desperate to boost their own personal brand.
That’s eight months away. Until then, you have St Patrick’s Day, St George’s Day, Euro 2016 and International Yorkshire Day charts to listen to.

50 YEARS OF TOP OF THE POPS : JUL 25 – JUL 31
We start this week with a treat for you. Mick Jagger turned 71 this week. We’ve pretty much exhausted all the Rolling Stones appearances, so here’s Mick trying a solo career in 1987.
Another week, another Royal Birthday. Roger Taylor from Queen, who narrowly beats Roger Taylor from Duran Duran as the most famous Roger Taylor in pop, turns 65.
No clip yet, but there’s a treat at the end (Not really a treat, but a tenuous Queen linked video)
Also celebrating a birthday this week is John Craven’s wife Beverley.
And Taka Hirose from Feeder.
This blog has accidentally taken on a theme of the 2000 US Presidential Election. Last week we had Gore (Martin, of Depeche Mode) and this week, we have Bush (Kate, much loved popular solo artist. Not the band fronted by Gavin Rossdale)
Some more birthdays, some drummers attempting to blow out candles this week, include, Sean Moore from Manic Street Preachers, who turned 46 this week.
And another drummer birthday this week, Bill Berry, formerly of REM.
Also celebrating this week, former Housemartin Norman Cook. And of a few other acts as well.
And finally, remember that Queen treat for Roger Taylor’s birthday? Prepare to be underwhelmed.
McFly were set to have the last Number 1 on the last weekly edition of TOTP with a cover of “Don’t Stop Me Now” – Until Shakira and Wyclef knocked them off.
You may be interested to know that epsiode was broadcast 8 years ago yesterday.
This was broadcast a few weeks earlier. I warned you it was underwhelming.

1. Hurts – Miracle
2. Haim – Don’t Save Me
3. Cara Dillon – Teenage Kicks
4. The Answer – Shining Light
5. Willy Moon – Yeah Yeah
You may have noticed two songs sticking out there in that playlist. They come from ‘Great Northern Songbook’ that was on BBC Two on New Year’s Day. The concept of the show? Northern Ireland acts covering Northern Ireland acts to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Ulster Hall (It was filmed in May 2012)
If you missed it, here it is on BBC Iplayer
Meanwhile, talking of BBC’s music outputs, last week saw BBC Four broadcast ‘The Story Of 1978’ a documentary about the music scene in 1978 to lead into their repeats of Top Of The Pops from that year.
If you missed the TOTP repeats from 1976 and 1978, you really have missed out. Check them out every Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC Four.

Last Sunday, ITV launched a three part series titled ‘The Nation’s Favourite Number One’ which will probably have some crap Robbie Williams or Spice Girls song as the winner.
To commemorate this (The UK Singkes chart turns 60 this year) i’m going to do a Top Five for every decade from the 60s on.
I have three editions of the Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles (1999, 2001, 2003) and read them from cover to cover, so I know which songs were and weren’t Number One off by heart.
I had to use Wikipedia for this decade, whatever it’s called. A marked departure from when I would check the charts on Ceefax on a Sunday night (It’s still on page 528, if you’re interested)

Meanwhile, the line-up for the Olympic Ganes opening concert was announced, featuring a band from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Duran Duran are representing England, with the organisers presumably thinking it’s the 1984 Olympics rather than the 2012 games. Snow Patrol got the Northern Ireland choice as Baltimora is dead, and Janet Devlin was too busy sitting in her bedroom listening to obscure music.
Stereophonics got the Welsh vote as Bonnie Tyler was too busy washing her lovely blonde hair. I have no idea why Paolo Nutini was chosen to represent Scotland.
To celebrate this, I shall do a Duran Duran, Stereophoincs, and Snow Patrol Top Five, as well as another Scotland Top Five (after previous St Andrew’s Day and Burns Night Top Fives)
Choosing a Duran Duran Top Five wasn’t easy. It was about as easy as a nuclear war.

I am absolutely loving the 1977 Top Of The Pops repeats on BBC Four. There is an absolutely fantastic series of parodies of the opening credits on Youtube, courtesy of the user TVGCity
You need to watch the show to
“get” the joke. I was literally crying with laughter at acts such as Isle Of Man World Cup Squad, St Winifred’s School Caretaker, Balls and Co, and Tony Tempah.
